Total Awards Given: 27 Gold Recipients 9 Silver Recipients 8 Copper Recipients Teen Solutions Accomplishes A Lot This Year...“Thirteen Teen Solutions’ members from La Paz County attended the seventh annual Students Taking a New Direction (STAND) summer conference at the WIGWAM Resort in Phoenix, AZ. Our local coalition actively participated in several workshops and trainings. They learned the power of social networking and what messages they should share, as well as the power and responsibility they have as STAND advocates. They were also able to meet other STAND members within our state and hear how others were making a difference within their own communities.
Two of our youth members were giving an award for their commitment to their Coalition and STAND: Alejandro Castro for the High School Coalition and Cristian Castro for the Wallace Jr. High Coalition. Congratulations from us all! Teen Solutions has had a busy year. They were recognized for their hard work in making the parks in Parker smoke-free through Arizonans Concerned about Smoking in Tempe, Arizona. They were also awarded the Governor’s Youth Volunteered Award for the most service youth-led service projects logged on the Governor’s Youth Commission website. Our youths were invited to an Ice-Cream Social with Governor Doug Ducey, which was quite an honor. Still, the most important result that came from their dedication and hard work was when the Parker Town Council adopted a new ordience at their May 17 meeting that makes it illegal to smoke in any of the town’s parks. We want to thank everyone who has assisted us in any way to make this dream come true. Teen Solutions invites you to take a STAND to be tobacco FREE and join our youth coalition TODAY! ANYONE interested please feel free to contact us at (928)669-1062.” Rosalina Aguayo, Tobacco Prevention Coordinator |
